We want to make sure you’re making the right choice for your child’s education journey. Which is why we’ve put together a collection of commonly asked questions. Please feel free to read through these to see if your question is answered here.
Alternatively, please get in touch and we will be happy to have a chat with you about our school!
At Enkindle we want to provide our students with the best of everything. By using a democratic model of operation, we will be able to use parts of Forest School, Montessori, Steiner, and many other methods of educating instead of being tied to just one. At our school, students will have a choice and a voice in their education.
Our school philosophy centres around child-centred education, because of this each day at Enkindle Village School will look different. Although each class does have a rough daily schedule, we value flexibility and innovation, and this leads to an ever-changing learning environment. If a potential student is struggling with self-regulation, they may find our more unstructured environment very difficult to manage.
Children learn out of interest and curiosity, so it makes sense that they have some autonomy in how they want to learn. We don’t all learn the same way, and don’t all find the same things interesting. At Enkindle we let our students have a voice and a choice in regard to their education, this gives them the freedom to learn the curriculum in a way that is best suited to their own needs.
At Enkindle we utilise the James Cook University Campus daily, our lessons are often delivered outdoors, in Wadda Mooli Creek or at one of the many outdoor learning classrooms on campus.
Enkindle Village School is an accredited school, approved by the New Non-State School Accreditation Board and utilises the Australian National Curriculum.
Interest to enrol at Enkindle Village School has been overwhelming, to add your child to our expressions of interest list for future years, please fill out the expression of interest form on our website to be sent an enrolment application.
Please note that acceptance of the enrolment application and any ensuing interview is not a guarantee of a place being offered at Enkindle.
We look at each student’s application carefully to ensure that they will fit within the Enkindle Village School Educational Model.
We look for evidence of creative interests, selflessness and empathy in future students. Participating in a democratic school which embraces student freedom and choice can be challenging to some students. A history of violence or destructive behaviour may impact an application. If a potential student is struggling with self-regulation they may find our more unstructured environment very difficult to manage and behaviour issues can sometimes escalate. This is the last thing we would want for you or your child. Therefore, Enkindle Village School should be well-considered as we follow a different path and purpose to traditional schooling.
Our registered teachers will assess students through observation as well as portfolio work. These methods are an effective way of determining a student’s understanding of the curriculum content and capabilities.
Our classrooms are flexible and fluid with multi-age class groups. Students will often move between classes when needed.
Enkindle Village School is a non-profit organisation; tuition fees are used alongside Commonwealth and State funding and are set to cover the operational costs of the School. Please refer to the Enrolments page for fees.
Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process. The sessions are run by a qualified Forest School Leader. We offer our students opportunities for holistic growth through weekly sessions in Wadda Mooli Creek. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting. At Enkindle we are proud members of the Australian Forest School Association.
Embodying our values of sustainability, connection and innovation, our school operates in a refurbished building centrally located on one of the most highly regarded universities in Australia – James Cook University (JCU).
Our unique location gives our students access to JCU’s world-class facilities, including Wadda Mooli Creek (which we utilise for Forest School), sporting grounds, science labs, library, and an unlimited number of outdoor classrooms we love to explore and learn in.
Our teaching staff are all qualified and registered teachers with experience working in Australian and Queensland schools. As part of our commitment to deliver the best educational experience for our students, teachers at Enkindle all have a deep understanding of child development theory and will receive regular professional development to further their knowledge and continuously deliver high-quality teaching.
Decisions like this are made by our students! Our current cohort have chosen to wear their own clothes as a form of self-expression, also by adhering to sun safety and always wearing clothing with sleeves.
All Australian Schools are required to hold some testing, such as NAPLAN. As a school built on choice, Enkindle will make these tests available for all children and families that wish to participate.
Enkindle Village School is open to all students and operate in line with all other schools in Queensland regarding immunisation status. Immunisation records are required for school compliance with Public Health Safety regulations. In the event of an outbreak, the School will notify families which may be affected due to their child’s immunisation status
